The focus of theOpen channel (Babbitt) flowmeter referred to here is the ultrasonic open channel flowmeter. It uses open channel technology, based on the flow rate water level calculation method, to measure the fluid level height, combined with the geometric size of the standard weir groove, slope coefficient, channel accuracy, hydraulic slope, and flow rate vertical plane correction coefficient, and then obtains the flow rate through the internal microprocessor operation of the instrument. Due to its non-contact measurement, open channel flow meters can be applied in harsh environments. Under the control of a microcomputer, the open channel flowmeter emits and receives ultrasonic waves. Based on the transmission time, the distance between the open channel flowmeter and the measured liquid level is calculated to obtain the liquid level height.

 

This instrument is easy to operate and comes with multiple standard weir calculation methods, making it easier to set up.

The host adopts IP66 protection level (pay attention to tightening the lower electrical interface during use to prevent dust and moisture), and our sensor part adopts IP67 high protection level (while the fully sealed sensor even reaches IP68)

Instrument Installation Method

Installation of weir groove

When using this instrument to measure flow, there must be a measuring weir groove on the open channel. The structure and dimensions of the measuring weir groove are shown in Appendix 2 of this manual. You can also refer to other technical documents for measuring water in weirs and troughs, such as the National Metrological Verification Regulations for Open Channel Weir and Trough Flowmeters JJG711-90. The internal program of the instrument has preset slot type options for commonly used Basher slots, rectangular weirs, and triangular weirs. (If the corresponding type does not match this instrument, please inform our company of the on-site tank type water level flow relationship table.)

Sensor installation

The installation position of the sensor on the channel is in accordance with the national metrological verification regulation "Open Channel Weir Flow Meter" JJG711-90. Triangle weirs and rectangular weirs should be installed upstream of the weir plate, at a distance equivalent to 3-4 times the maximum water depth passing through the weir plate; (As shown in Figures 4 and 5) The Basher groove is located at 1/3 of the inlet contraction section. (As shown in Figure 6)
Note: The instrument is installed in the center of the channel or on a static water well; The instrument needs to be installed upstream of the weir plate or weir groove;
It is recommended to use fiberglass, PVC, or stainless steel for the production of weir slots and weir plates. The size of the triangular and rectangular weir openings should be accurate, and the inner wall facing the inlet side should be smooth. The size of the Basher groove throat should be accurate, and the inner wall of the groove should be smooth.
